Gear Material Introduction
Nov 16, 2018

The steels commonly used in the manufacture of gears are quenched and tempered steel, hardened steel, carburized and quenched steel and nitrided steel. The strength of cast steel is slightly lower than that of forged steel, which is often used for gears with larger sizes; the mechanical properties of gray cast iron are poor, and it can be used in light-load open gear transmission; ductile iron can partially replace steel to make gears; plastic gears are used more. For light loads and where noise is required, the gears that are paired with them generally use steel gears with good thermal conductivity.

In the future, the gears will be developed in the direction of heavy load, high speed, high precision and high efficiency, and strive to be small in size, light in weight, long in life and economical and reliable.

The development of gear theory and manufacturing process will be the mechanism to further study the tooth damage. This is the basis for establishing a reliable strength calculation method, and is the theoretical basis for improving gear bearing capacity and extending gear life. The development is represented by circular tooth profile. New tooth shape; research on new gear materials and new processes for manufacturing gears; study the elastic deformation of the gears, manufacturing and installation errors, and the distribution of temperature fields, and perform tooth profile modification to improve the smoothness of gear operation and at full load When the contact area of the teeth is increased, the load carrying capacity of the gear is improved.
