Designing & Manufacturing Taper Bushings for Secure Shaft Mounting
Donghua specializes in the design and manufacturing of taper bushings (taper lock bushes)-precision mechanical components that provide a secure, efficient, and easily installed method for connecting sprockets, pulleys, couplings, and gears to rotating shafts. Our ISO standard bushings feature a tapered design that increases in diameter toward the outer edge, delivering superior grip and high torque transmission. As a leading global manufacturer since 1991, we produce taper bushings that enhance the durability and efficiency of your equipment.Taper bushings are essential components in machinery involving rotating shafts and spindles. Key features and benefits include:
- Tapered Design: The 8-degree taper from one side to the next creates a wedging action that locks the bushing securely to the shaft.
- Split Bushing Design: Halves can be separated during installation, making it easy to fit around the shaft and remove when needed.
- High Torque Transmission: Provides a secure grip that efficiently transmits torque from the bushing to the shaft.
- Compact Fit: The taper-lock design requires less length-thru-bore than flanged bushings, allowing for slimmer assemblies.
- Versatility: Used with sprockets, pulleys, couplings, and gears in manufacturing, construction, and power transmission industries.
- Dependable Performance: Popular due to their reliability, versatility, and adaptability to different applications.

What NOT to do: Do not use any lubricant or anti-seize on any component. Lubrication can cause the bushing to seat improperly, leading to failure.
Correct Installation Steps:
- Clean: Remove all oil, grease, dirt, and metal filings from all surfaces.
- Inspect: Ensure the bushing has no cracks or signs of fatigue; check that the shaft has no nicks or burrs.
- Place: Insert the bushing into the sprocket, pulley, or sheave, aligning the bushing's non-threaded holes with the component's threaded holes.
- Insert Screws: Hand-tighten the screws into the threaded holes.
- Install Shaft: Place the assembly onto the shaft. Use a rubber mallet and block to seat the bushing squarely if needed.
- Tighten: Gradually tighten the screws, cycling from one to another, until reaching the rated torque for your bushing and screw size.
